Highland Retreat

This is the view across the river from the Onich caravan site situated near the Corran Ferry north of Onich, on the eastern bank of Loch Linnhe in the Scottish Highlands. The hills in the background are actually on the opposite bank of the loch. I have visited this campsite often and photographed this particular view many times. I was particularly taken, on this occasion, by the sunlight on the hills behind the cottage.

Poppy Profusion

Arncroach is a small village in the East Neuk of Fife. In the summer, there is a profusion of wild flowers - poppies and daisies - by the roadside, contrasting with the gold of the fields behind.

Gleann Duibh, near Killin

This secluded spot in Gleann Duibh was discovered during a long walk in Acharn forrest in the hills to the south of Killin. The river winds and tumbles over the rocks in its downwards rush and, just after this spot, passes under an old viaduct which used to carry the railway to Killin Station. The old railway route is now used as a cycle track.

'Morning Has Broken...'

This was painted from a non digital photograph taken on my travels many years ago. Unfortunately the exact location was not noted at the time and my notorious delay in developing those films made it difficult for me to recollect at the much later date. However it is typical of many beaches in Scotland and has been one of my favourite images.

This is a view from the south bank of the Thames towards Lambeth Bridge and includes St Paul's Cathedral in the distance. I liked the way the view was 'framed' by the impressive large ornamental lamp-posts which line the riverside walkway.

Glen Gour, Nr Sallachan, Loch Linnhe

This view was captured during a cycle run while on holiday at Onich on Loch Linnhe. We had crossed to Ardgour on the Corran Ferry and followed the coast road southwards. The road bridged the river Gour just before it joined Loch Linnhe with this lovely view opening up towards the head of the glen.

This painting was started 'en plein air', at Pittenweem harbour on a beautiful summer's day. The only difficulty I had to contend with was that the composition kept changing as the incoming tide caused the fishing boats to rise and conceal the background
